Spring Traditions and Festivals

Mar 17, 2025

March is a month full of color, culture, and celebrations around the world. March brings changes, new winds, with the arrival of the seasons on the equinox on the 20th.

From the vibrant energy of St. Patrick’s Day to the explosion of light and fire of the Fallas of Valencia, this month is an invitation to travel and discover unique traditions.

Let’s explore together some of these events so that you can start preparing and experience them in 2026:

Fallas of Valencia – March 1st to 19th

This event, declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is an explosion of culture and tradition.

The Fallas combine ephemeral art, gunpowder, and music in a celebration that culminates with the cremà, where huge Fallas monuments burn on a magical night.

Its origin lies in the ancient custom of carpenters who, to celebrate the arrival of light with spring (March 20th), used to burn parots (pieces of wood used for light during winter) in front of their workshops on the night before the equinox.

Over time, dresses, fabrics, and colors were added, humanizing these parots, and they became ninots. Along with Valencian humor, they gained the critical and ironic tone we see each year.

If you’ve ever dreamed of feeling the excitement of this party live, Valencia in March awaits you with open arms.

St. Patrick’s Day – March 17th

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated big in Ireland, where St. Patrick is the patron saint, but also in many other cities around the world: New York, Chicago, Boston, London, and even now in cities like Madrid.

Streets dyed green, live Celtic music, and the traditional toast with Guinness beer make this day an unforgettable celebration.

Can you imagine being in Dublin enjoying the official parade?

Cherry Blossom Festival in Japan: Late March to early April is the best time to see the famous sakura in Tokyo, Kyoto, and other Japanese cities.

It’s an ancient tradition that during Hanami, Japanese people gather with family and friends in parks to admire and celebrate the fleeting beauty of this event with traditional foods and drinks.

Holi in India and Nepal: The festival of colors, symbolizing the arrival of spring, is celebrated with colored powders, dancing, and much joy.

Each of these festivals is a unique opportunity to connect with the culture and history of a place. Which will be your next adventure?
